lol in the process of making my HB server downer pretty simple in VB using packets from the source... could make a mess of things in a hurry haha
Pretty fun tho just to see what all u can do with simple packets

well as for the pre-2.20 sources, i found the on sourceforge, there is a sticky here linking to them.

i dont know about how they were aquired, but they were accepted into a project there and as far as im concerend they are liscenced under an open source license (GPL)

the 2.24c is a derivative work by hbx and thus must also be released under the gpl (and im assumeing the same for the 2.24b)

this clears up liability for actually hosting a server

as for the client source i forget where that came from, but the copyright on hbusa's site basically state that if we use their binary client its a no-no. the sources here as far as i know were not released under any license (so thankfully players cant request full sourced copys of the client for any particular server, again unless i missed something)

the use of cximage is fully open sourced so no issue there. search.dll can be removed excrutatingly simply so we dont need that dependacy from them.

all contents as per server can be custom made and thus not simentechs work.

this then just leaves mapdata and sprites as their only ties to legal copyright use, neither of which need to be distributed by any server and by this phrase in the copyright on their site

However, we grant you the non-exclusive right to use, for non-commercial and personal use only, to copy any of the materials.

the mapdata and sprites that are default are only used on their end users end and thus in no way a violation on behalf of the hoster

im going to need to update that to reflect my findings as of the old 2.03 version then

the source in the file distributed was released in 2001, before iEnt controlled the source. some configs were edited more recently, but the code is from then.

In 2003 an open source project based on the released source code known as [http://sourceforge.net/projects/hb-online/ hb-online]. This project released under the [[GPL]]. The 2.03 version source code released from the project contains code dated from 2001, before [[IENT]] owned the rights to Helbreath, and which many private servers are based upon a [[derivative work]] of this project, not Helbreath.
